Ah, French Cinema.

What? First of all, the photo above is of my sister’s new dog “Mila” who was adopted through Baja La Paz Animal Rescue (we did bingo for them last Thursday). As you can see, she is enjoying her new home immensely.  I made her look like a scene from a French film so you should read the subtitle in a French accent. In fact, you should read all of the below in a French accent since I am doing an homage to director Federico Fellini with photos taken last week when Roxy and I did our monthly bingo gig at Grand Central Market downtown. I was inspired by the skyline and the people and, well…here we go.

Ah, the city. The big, beautiful city of Angels. So full of life and love and hope. And, of course, Bingo. I laugh and cry together at the same time.

I see the Bingo Girl as she arrives and walks quickly to the stand with the food. She waits for the man to take her order and then she waits again. “Will the food ever arrive? Will it satisfy? I am so hard to satisfy so again, as always, it makes me wonder.”

I watch the Bingo Girl as she eats. She seems satisfied. Oh no! She sees me and my camera! “I do not like this!” she says. “I do not like the camera when I eat! Why cannot I eat without a camera always intruding?” I apologize and pretend to leave but really I am hiding behind a giant pole that holds the building up.

Such opulent prizes for the winners of the Bingo games. So many to choose from. How do they choose? How do they know that they have made the right decision? I suppose they (we) never do. We never know, do we?

The lonely Los Angeles man watches as the Bingo Girl talks very loudly to the gathered crowd, repeating letters and numbers in some sort of random pattern. Or is it random? Is she saying something only to him? Something he can only understand? Soon he walks away but the song continues to play in his head for blocks- “pelt them, pelt them, all the way down and all the way back! Pelt them, pelt them….” Will the song ever leave his head? He also wonders “How far down is all the way back?”

The crowd continues to drink and the night takes a dark turn. The Bingo Girl takes out a large black strapping tool and a man quickly steps up to be the first to feel its sting on his buttocks.

A second man prefers the sting on his taint and testicle region.

‘Why must I always play Bingo alone?”

The man behind the bar looks out at the strange world of Bingo that has invaded his reality and wonders “Did I make the right choice? Are there better places that I should be?” When no one is watching, he is drinking from the tap as would a gerbil in a cage.

A boxer of some reknown offers his hand to me in a gesture of friendship and also of supplication. He does not look me in the eye but he knows that I am there. I see him. But does he see me?

End of movie.

Or “Fin.”

Coming up on

Wednesday, September 27th!

What a fun night we have planned. For the 7 pm show our special guest will be actor/host Bryan Safi! He stars in the TV Land show “Throwing Shade” as well as hosting the popular podcast. You may have also seen him on “The Big Bang Theory” and he was a writer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”! I just watched him in a very funny movie “You’re Killing Me” on Amazon and I HIGHLY recommend it. A gay serial killer comedy- come on!

For the 9 pm show we are “Playing House”! Literally! We have the two stars of the USA Network show “Playing House,” Lennon Parnham and Jessica St. Claire! Such a funny show and trust me, you have seen both of these women in hilarious roles on so many other shows including “Veep” and “Lady Dynamite” (any other Lady Dynamite fans out there?). I cannot wait to meet them in person (we’re just email friends right now).

They’re gonna bring “Playing House” and USA Network swag to give away!

Make a reservation for either or both shows NOW! 323.654.3800.
